Learning paths and gamification

Beyond assessments, SkillFoundry includes a practice and growth system for candidates: structured learning paths, sprint-based modules built from real repositories, and gamification (XP, achievements, streaks, leaderboards).

Availability: organizations can enable hiring-only mode, which hides all of the features on this page for their members. If you don't see Game Mode, Learning, or Leaderboards in your sidebar, your organization has focused your account on assessments only — that's expected, not a bug.

Learning Center

The Learning page offers two complementary systems:

Learning paths

Structured curricula targeted at a role level (junior / mid / senior):

  1. Browse paths, filter by skill or role, and enroll.
  2. Each path contains modules of tasks; complete tasks to progress.
  3. Track progress per path, and earn certificates on completion (Learning → Certificates).
  4. A resources library (Learning → Resources) collects supporting material.

Sprint modules (repository-based learning)

A hands-on system built from real codebases:

  1. Pick a programming language and choose from curated repositories (or import a repository by Git URL).
  2. Choose a goal track (for example, become a senior developer).
  3. SkillFoundry compiles a learning plan: a timeline of sprints, each containing tasks derived from the repository.
  4. Complete tasks; submissions are scored with feedback.

Progression rules:

  • You need roughly 70% sprint completion to advance to the next sprint.
  • You can have at most 3 active sprints at a time.
  • Task difficulty adapts to your performance — completing tasks quickly and cleanly unlocks harder material.

Repository imports and plan compilation run asynchronously — large repositories can take a little while to process before the plan appears.

Gamification

XP and levels

Completing challenges earns XP based on difficulty:

Difficulty Base XP
Easy 50
Medium 100
Hard 200

Multipliers apply for perfect submissions and active streaks, and daily challenges carry bonus XP. Accumulated XP determines your level; your profile shows current level and progress toward the next.

Streaks

Completing at least one challenge per day builds a streak (streak days), which boosts XP multipliers. Streaks appear on your profile, in Game Mode, and in settings.

Achievements and badges

Achievements are awarded for milestones and skill-specific accomplishments, with rarity tiers: common, rare, epic, legendary. Earned badges appear on your gamification profile and public developer profile. Some cosmetic unlocks (avatar outfits) are tied to achievements.

Daily challenge

Game Mode features one curated daily challenge with bonus XP.

Practice bots (Game Mode)

Game Mode ("Training Simulation") lets you practice against themed bot personas, each with a personality and preferred challenge types:

  • TechLead — architecture and code-review-flavored challenges
  • Bug Hunter — debugging-focused tasks
  • Startup CTO — pragmatic, ship-it challenges
  • QA Specialist — testing and edge cases
  • Data Engineer — data-manipulation tasks

Selecting a bot and difficulty filters the practice challenges you're offered.

Leaderboards

Rankings by scope and timeframe are available in the Gamification Center's leaderboard tab. Leaderboards reset per period (e.g., weekly/monthly views), so a new period starting with fresh standings is expected.

Public challenges

The Gamification Center also serves public challenges — community/curated tasks you can take on demand for XP, with filters for difficulty and tags and an option to exclude ones you've already completed. Public challenge submissions are rate-limited (about 30 requests/minute) to keep things fair.

For organization admins

  • Hiring-only mode (Org Admin → Settings) disables all of the above for your members if you want a pure assessment experience.
  • Gamification data (XP, streaks) is visible to interviewers on candidate detail pages as supplementary context; it reflects practice engagement, not assessment performance, and shouldn't be used as a hiring signal by itself.
